HOTS QUESTIONING ABILITY AND HOTS PERCEPTION OF LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN INDONESIA

This study is part of a larger-scale research aimed at mapping the pedagogical competence teachers English and Indonesian Language across three cities differing demographic features in Indonesia. As subset study, this paper focused on investigating ability to formulate higher-order thinking (HOT) questions classroom among teachers, as well getting their perception about applying HOTS classes. The was done by comparing abilities teachers’ regions, years service, subjects taught (English Language). designed case involving quantitative qualitative data analyses, with 15 (fifteen) secondary school participants. Data were collected through observations, document (lesson plan) interviews. Quantitative analysis performed scores formulating questions, while teaching documents transcripts coded for analysis. Although statistical results revealed no significant difference between questioning different regions suggested that language medium, shown might be an important factor affecting ask HOT applicability inquiry into perceptions also displayed gap bigger city those more remote novices practitioners.
